We read another beautiful children’s book about the sun today, Sun Bread by Elisa Kleven, and when we were finished, we made our own sun bread. I’m not going to lie. This didn’t come out pretty. But it was really fun!
In the book, it says, “Perhaps it was the yeast or flour- Something gave that sun bread power! It rose and rose and rose and rose…” The dough recipe in this book rises quickly and Bodhi was so amazed to see it grow!
We ate the bread with some butter and jelly while we read the book again. Such a cute story and the illustrations are magnificent! The baker misses the sun so much that she decides to make her own sun- the sun bread. It was a great way to celebrate the summer solstice but it would make a great activity for a rainy day when you’re missing the sun as well or even for the winter solstice when the darkness is making way for some light again.
