Bringing Nature Inside
We’re outdoors people. I see how much calmer and happier my kids are- and not to mention myself- when we get outside in nature. So, when rainy season comes, we have to make some life adjustments. We love to put on our rain gear and head out for some puddle jumping, but inevitably, we end up staying indoors a little longer when it’s rainy. We do more tea parties and reading and building, but we also tend to turn to the tv more and turning off Doc McStuffins becomes a much bigger battle. This year, I really wanted to help my boys feel more at peace when inside so I decided to try and bring more nature inside. Plus, bringing nature indoors allows the boys to explore it in a new way. It’s a work in progress but here are some things we’ve started with. (referral links below)
1. Nature Table Tools
I took our nature table to the next level. Bodhi and Zane are constantly bringing in things to put on the table and I finally got some better tools for investigation. At some point I also want to get a hammer. Bodhi got to crack open acorns at his school and continues to talk about it.
2. Bird Feeder
We brought some wildlife to our windows and it’s awesome! When a bird flies up to the feeder, the room goes silent, which is a rarity in our house, and then quickly turns into utter chaos as they try to see the birds. This one sticks to our window so we get to be right up close to them. And, watching the squirrels try to finagle their way in also provides loads of entertainment.
3. Natural Mood Lighting
Bodhi and I went branch hunting and then we decorated the perfect one with some fairy lights (and they’re battery operated and have a remote!). It’s pretty magical and definitely makes the space feel cozy and fun. We’re hoping to hang some fallen leaves from it soon to have our own magical indoor tree.
Already, our house is feeling cozier. Nothing will replace a good saunter in the forest but we’re pretty happy with our first take on bringing more nature inside.
