Beautiful, Fun Poetry
I’ve been wanting to introduce poetry to Bodhi, but I’m still trying to figure out how to do that with a preschooler. For now, I’ve decided that the first step is to help him develop an interest in it and in order to do that, I need to find some beautiful, fun, relatable poems. I found the perfect book- When Green Becomes Tomatoes by Julie Fogliano (affiliate link). I will also admit that I bought this book for myself too. It’s simple and beautiful and it puts me at peace. Each poem is titled with a date. Here’s today’s beauty:
there is nothing left to bloom
these showers will not bring you flowers at all
these showers are practice for snow.
Bodhi loves paying attention to the changing seasons and When Green Becomes Tomatoes (aff link) is the perfect compliment for that. I’m hoping that as the seasons change, we can read these poems and hopefully create some of our own poetry. With our nature table, we have been extra mindful of all that arrives, departs and adapts with each season and I think this will provide an excellent primer to some beautiful, thoughtful poems. I can’t wait to teach my boys more about poetry and for now, reading this book of beauty is a perfect beginning.
