This is the solstice, the still point
of the sun, its cusp and midnight,
the year’s threshold
and unlocking, where the past
lets go of and becomes the future;
the place of caught breath, the door
of a vanished house left ajar.
We celebrated the solstice with Bo’s preschool today. Each child brought a vegetable and they cooked friendship soup together. We made candles and also created an offering table with “gifts from our local creature teachers”. The children sang songs and we all ate together to celebrate the darkness that’s giving way to the growing light. It was a beautiful day.
